Artlantis Testimonial/ Filip Deslee

Filip Deslee

Interior architect/designer and co-founder of LOFT4C, a minimalist style design agency in Belgium.

He was born in a family that has run a bathroom and kitchen furniture business for four generations. In his childhood, he absorbed a lot of basic knowledge and accumulated practical experiences in this field. While other children were drawing classical houses, he already designed floor plans.

“I strongly believe that the environment in which I grew up, in combination with my genes, made me who and what I am today,” Filip said.

After graduating in 1996 with the distinction “summa cum laude” from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK), Ghent, in 1996, he quickly became a head designer at various architectural firms and developed his minimalist vision. A few years later, he returned to teach at the KASK, and his design approach also caught the attention of television producers.

“They were looking for a media-genic interior architect who could fill in an original space in 48 hours.”

Together with Veronique De Kock, Ann Van Elsen and Cara Vander Auwera, he presented ‘the Belgian version of Huizenjacht’ on the VT4 television channel.

Following the television success, he established his private design agency.

“We design minimalist interiors that are not only beautiful to look at but also pleasant to live in.”

When did you start using Artlantis?

I began to use Artlantis during my college years. I even suspect that it was the first version of Artlantis. Since then, I have been loyal to it: I have tried other software but always concluded that Artlantis is the best choice for what I do.

What is Artlantis to you?

Artlantis helps me to visualize my vision and design ideas for my clients. It delivers renderings with realistic material effects and accurate light projection. Artlantis is a very user-friendly software for me: it is logical, simple, and provides an immediate result.

My designs are first roughly shaped in SketchUp, and then I use Artlantis for finishing and detailing, without post-production.

What advice would you give to beginners of Artlantis?

The most important for a successful rendering is giving a realistic impression of the design; the importance is not whether they are photo-realistic images. Developing your unique style is primary, and Artlantis is the best software for that.

I enjoy the process of looking for the appropriate setting to achieve the desired and sometimes surprising result.
